Celebrating 88 Years

We're turning 88 years old this month and think we've aged pretty well!

It all began back on June 4, 1936, when ten local educators each deposited $5 to begin our credit union. We were called Columbia Teachers FCU and served the local education community. Our first and only office until 1970 was in the basement of the old Columbia High School.

Over the years, our credit union began to steadily grow in asset size, membership, product offerings, number of branches, and the size of our team. In 2001, after many years of solid growth, we were granted a community charter by the federal government and officially became Palmetto Citizens.

Our founding members set out to create an organization which would truly value the people it served. Palmetto Citizens has continued to build upon this member-focused culture and strong foundation to expand into the financial institution we are today.

From our humble beginnings, Palmetto Citizens has grown to meet the financial needs of tens of thousands of members. We've weathered the challenges of harsh economic conditions and the ever-changing complexities of the financial industry. Through it all, we've continually adapted to ensure we remain a trusted financial partner and a safe and sound organization.

We truly love our members - without you and your trust in us, none of this would ever have been possible. Getting the chance to help people with their financial needs and be part of the important milestones in their financial lives is not something we ever take for granted.
